Children's privacy notice
Draft, not yet reviewed by a lawyer.
This notice is for parents and legal guardians. It explains what Family Circle keeps about your children, and the choices you have. It is part of our Privacy Policy.
How parents give consent
- A parent starts the family, signed in with their own account (Sign in with Apple, or an email address they confirm).
- Before adding any child, the parent sees what we keep and how we look after it, and ticks "I'm the parent or legal guardian, and I agree". This is recorded with the family and on our server (the version and the time).
- Children join only with a code or QR code that a parent made for them, on a phone the parent sets up. Little ones (very young children) never sign in at all: parents add them.
When this notice changes in a way that matters, the app asks a parent to agree again.
What we keep about a child
- Name or nickname, birthday, colour, heart and outfits.
- For a teen with their own login: an email address (or Apple's private relay address). A child can join with a code instead.
- What they do in the app with the family: moods, prayers ticked, Quran pages read, which sūrahs they are learning or have memorised, stars, jobs and rewards, pocket money amounts, chat messages to the family, calendar events, their school timetable (lessons, rooms and teachers, term dates), bingo and game results.
- For little ones: notes and privacy choices written by a parent, and the care log (feeds, naps, nappy changes, medicine, notes and milestones, with the time and who logged it), kept by the parents and the teens they choose.
We keep only what the family features need. We don't ask for a child's photo, phone number, address or exact location. Photo hunt pictures stay on the device and are never uploaded. In Juz ʿAmma's "Repeat after", the microphone records only while the child holds the button; the recording is played back once and deleted straight away, and never leaves the device.
Who sees it
- Only members of your family, in the app. Children can only chat with their own family; there are no strangers, public profiles or friend lists.
- The data is stored on Family Circle's server (Supabase, in Sydney, Australia). It is encrypted at rest but not end to end, so the people who run Family Circle can technically access it. We only do so to run the service, fix problems, or when the law requires it.
- We never sell children's data, never show ads, and never use it for profiling or tracking. There are no analytics in the app.
Your choices as a parent
- Review your child's data in the app, or export the family's data (Settings → Your data).
- Correct it in the app.
- Delete it: remove the child from the family, delete their account, or delete the whole family in Settings.
- Refuse further collection: remove the child from the family. You can agree to the collection of your child's data without agreeing to share it with anyone else, because we don't share it with anyone else.
- Ask us anything: privacy@REPLACE-ME.
The laws we follow
- COPPA (United States, children under 13): verifiable parental consent through the parent's own account before a child's data is collected; parents can review and delete it.
- GDPR and UK GDPR (children under 13 to 16, depending on the country, "GDPR-K"): a parent's consent for children below the age of digital consent; data kept to a minimum; privacy by default.
- Saudi Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL): a guardian's consent for a minor's data. REPLACE-ME (lawyer): PDPL specifics, including transfer outside the Kingdom.
